The AX3 adapter incorporates Vision III’s, Digital Parallax Scanning Technology (DPS). The DPS technology offsets the iris from the center of the lens, moving in a 360 degree circle 4.3 times per second. The offset iris "sees" a different point of view (parallax position) at the plane of focus. The iris off set positions will naturally converge at the plane of focus gaining more visual information and clarity while producing a higher quality depth enhanced image.

The AX3 allows its iris to be off set +/- 3 mm (amplitude) from lens center position. This provides a total AX3 iris scan off set of up to 6 mm peek-to-peek. The AX3 iris can be moved through positions of parallax at speeds of between 0 - 15 Hz. Typically best depth enhancement is acheived at 4.3 Hz. During parallax scanning the lens iris remains fully open. The AX3 can not parallax scan with a fully open iris. Images can still be recorded but there is no where for the iris to move if it is fully open. Perallax scanning works by moving the AX3 iris within the area of the lens maximum iris (lens speed). Typically parallax scanning works best at ranges between f/5.6 and f/16. Larger f/stops will produce good results at close focuses.
